A Beautiful Perspective

I read this post on Dooce and was struck by a comment (one of almost 1,000).  She links to a site that has pictures of people before and after death.   It sounds grotesque, but it is beautifully done and they are people with terminal illnesses that have agreed to be a part of this series of pictures.   It also gives a little bit of their story.

"My good friend is a hospice nurse. She often says there is no difference between her work and the work of a labor and delivery nurse; one helps to birth babies and the other helps to birth souls – both of which require great courage. She likes to imagine that those souls are a messy, squirming, crying blob which are handed to their creator who knows and loves them.

I thought that was a neat way of looking at it.   Comforting too.
