Deep Freezer Woes

I just went out to get some stew meat from the deep freezer for tomorrow’s dinner.  I had to unload the pile of boxes that had accumulated over the past few weeks to get to it.  I guess we hadn’t taken anything out of it for awhile.  As I opened it the smell hit me first.  Then the sight of frozen blood covering the bottom of it.  At some point in the past few weeks it went off for some reason and the quarter of a cow’s worth of beef we bought months ago bled all over the freezer.  It had turned itself back on and everything was partially refrozen, but I don’t know how long it had been off.  I rescued the Hershey’s Cinnamon Chips (because they are hard to find) from the basket at the top.  I also grabbed a big bag of walnuts and tossed them all into the freezer in our second fridge.  I don’t know if I will dare use them, but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow when the nausea passes.  We turned the freezer up to high to get everything as frozen solid as we can before we fill our garbage bin with it Monday morning before the garbage truck comes.

I can still smell the smell from the garage.

It is 1:00am.  I am going to go take a shower.  And then I might take another one.

  • Oh yikes, that’s horrible. I hate to think about what you will have to deal with today.
I see you are reading Artemis Fowl, that’s a fun book. You should ask Aubree about Twilight. She started it this week and hasn’t been able to put it…and she’s almost finished all 3.

  • That’s a big loss!

Oh Kim! ICK! That is tragic to lose that much beef. However, we bought a half a cow last year (we named her “Bessie”) and we have now found that she was not a very good cow. About 5 out of 6 roasts were just not good. And really fatty ground beef. I’m feeling at this point that it might be a good thing for our freezer to die, then I’d have an excuse to throw it all out and start over!

And I want to comment on Warren’s comment – I started reading Twilight last week, and it’s true! I can’t put it down! There is something very addicting to it.

Maryanne, ewwww….we have been lucky so far with our cows. A boy in our ward raises them and slaughters (I hate that word) them every year and this was our second? third? year buying some. The last one was really good and the little we had used of this one was good, but we hadn’t tried the roasts yet. I might be a little hesitant to buy that much meat again!

Twilight is already on my list to read soon! I have had it on hold at the library, but I think I am in a long line of people waiting for it. I have heard really good things about it.
