It Smells Happy

I took the kids to the elementary to see if Luca needed to register for the new school year. I remember registering every year as a kid and it seems strange to just show up on the first day of school, but that is all returning students have to do here.

Luca had a cute little smile on her face as we walked into the school office and she waved at the two women working there.

"Hi Luca!” they said as we walked into the office. I could tell she was thrilled they remembered her name.

After finding out we didn’t have to fill out any paperwork we headed back to the car. Luca grabbed my hand and looked up at me and said, “I love the way it smells in there.”

She smiled all the way to the car.

I am glad that the smell of office supplies makes my girl happy.

I am glad that learning makes her happy.

I am glad that she is counting down the days until school starts.

But it doesn’t make me miss her any less when she finally goes back.

  • That’s pretty sweet. It gave me a lump in my throat and I am happy too that she loves going to school like she does. I don’t think I’d ever thought of the school smell like that.

  • I too love the smell of office supplies. I know, freekazoid!
I am looking forward to the order that the school year brings but I will miss all the trips to the park we’ve made this summer. It has been a fun and simple one this year. We’ve just been enjoying the sun and the beautiful outdoors. I will miss all my kids at home but then I wil enjoy my afternoons with Hattie. I guess I just enjoy the whole year. Every season has it goods and bads. ok, no more rambling.

Hey Kim, I am so glad that you found my blog. We deffinatley need to keep in touch. Your kids are addorable. they grow up so fast don’t they.

  • The television’s off and good music is playing on Sunday.
There’s a whiff of roast beef cooking in the oven and the kitchen’s clean because we took the time to do it on Saturday.
    That smells happy to me.

  • Oh my gosh…how cute is she..What a sweet comment to make about the smell…she will never forget..

You are a canning machine!! You go girl..Melanie

  • She is adorable! Really, she likes the smell of school? Even the lunch room? Ucky! Just kidding, whenever I wash my hands with soap at a public restroom, when I smell my hands it instantly takes me back to the lunchroom at school when I washed my hands right before eating my pb&j everyday.
