my thoughts on motherhood, kids, books and stuff

Seven Years Old

Happy Birthday to a special girl!

I knew Luca was getting older when she asked for a down pillow for her birthday.  No requests for dolls, DVD’s, or Nintendo games…just a "squishy pillow" like mine.

I also got her a set of Little House on the Prairie books because I loved them as a child.  That’s one of the benefits of being a parent.  You can force..uh, I mean influence…your children to like things that give you that little nostalgic lump in your throat (if there is such a thing as a "nostalgic lump").

  • I love this picture of Luca. She’s been such a help with Kai I can’t imagine not having her around. I can’t believe she’ll be baptized a year from now. She’s a wonderful daughter.

Happy Birthday Luca! I have really enjoyed reading all about you this week and hearing about your first 7 years. Your mom and dad have taken a lot of very pretty pictures of you, and you are a really beautiful girl! Have a fun 7th birthday!!

  • Nostalgic lumps are real alright. Especially when your daughter plays with your Strawberry Shortcake doll or the baby doll you recieved when you were a day old.
This tribute (is that the right word?) was wonderful Kim. You are awesome!!!

Those marketers know what they are doing, don’t they Keli?! They bring back Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, Cabbage Patch Kids….all those things that were around when we were kids. I realized I was the target of their marketing and not my kids when I found myself BEGGING my daughters to ask for Cabbage Patch Dolls for Christmas…nope…they have zero interest in them and it about made me cry.

I am just waiting for Monchichis and Smurfs to make a comeback.

  • I’m glad Luca got the wonderful pillow she wanted. She is particular about her pillows like you are!
